A Letter to Myself - Age 14

One more year has passed
And the day has drifted by
Fourteen isn't much different;
Though the relatives say “Oh my!”

But one could argue I have changed
For the worse – or better
So to help sort out thoughts,
I'll write myself a letter.

So...

Dear Me,
You're no longer thirteen
And you've stated you're no different
from yesterday.

But it's come to my attention
That you've forgotten to mention
How much more pride
you carry with your new age.

And I've noticed you changing
And, of course, rearranging,
You're brain's thoughts, hopes
and your woes.

And since the purpose of this letter
Is to make you feel better
I shall tell you exactly how
our life goes.

Listen closely child
For the future is wild
And I, your subconscious, knows
how to get you through.

A piece of advice –
Do not think twice;
Trust your heart
and instinct alone.

But I am immature
So just to be sure
Listen to the few elders
whom you trust.

Uncertainty lies ahead
But you won't end up dead;
People have been here before
and, obviously, lived.

For now, I bid you farewell
And when you reach Hell
Just remember
my words of advice.

Don't forget your teacher
Or who you were, either
Compare what you are now
and think of what you'll become.

Now I sign Sincerely
And oh so dearly
The name of my inner me
